What does the work of an Online English Teacher involve and what is most enjoyable about it?
Zhivahn, one of our really great online teachers, shares her answers here.
Tell us what’s involved in the day-to-day work of an Online ESL Teacher?
So far, I’ve found being an online teacher one of the best experiences in my life!
As an online teacher, in a usual day, you’ll teach and mentor students. You’ll be responsible for providing innovative and exciting lessons suited to each student’s level.
It is vital that you understand and care about your student’s individual needs and their progress.
Throughout the day, you’ll provide fun lessons to students, while creating a safe space for them to become confident in themselves and their ability.
As an online teacher, my job involves providing students with proper guidance and support, as well providing them with constructive (yet positive) feedback.
Positive feedback plays a BIG role in a student’s performance, as it encourages them to do their best whilst having fun doing so.
As much as this job is fun and rewarding, it’s important that a teacher prepares and plans properly before each lesson so that you go into it absolutely ready to be a really great teacher everytime!
What do you enjoy most about being an Online English Teacher?
Online teaching provides me with freedom to schedule my classes to my preference, which means that I can enjoy each and every class that I teach!
I enjoy the freedom it gives me to express and be myself, to voice my opinion and to listen to what others have to say. I believe that I learn just as much from my students as they do from me.
I thoroughly enjoy conducting online-classes, because I get a sense of pride from making a difference through teaching.
Also, it intrigues me to learn about different cultural backgrounds and differences. I love the fact that this job offers me the opportunity to meet new people.
What’s the best thing about being an Online Teacher and what’s most challenging?
The best thing about being an online teacher is the flexibility it offers me, as well as the interactions everyday with all my spectacular students.
The most challenging thing about I find my work is having students (or parents) who can sometimes be unkind or unappreciative. Nonetheless, as teachers, you need a thick skin to be able to handle this in an appropriate way. It’s important not take minor issues too much to heart – everything with a pinch of salt, as they say.
Thanks for sharing, Zhivahn!
